The Hong Kong Educational Publishing Company Ltd. was founded in 1979 specifically to publish textbooks, reference and educational books for primary and secondary schools. It was set up as a subsidiary of The Commercial Press (H.K.) Ltd. Today, the company has become one of Hong Kong’s leading local publishers.

In thirty years since its inception, the company has published books on arts subjects, humanities and social science, mathematics and science, Putonghua, art and handicrafts, and subjects to General Education. The types of book published include not only textbooks but also a variety of extracurricular reading and reference materials.

To meet the demand for IT education and e-learning, a web page called ‘CyberLearning’ (http://www.hkep.com) was introduced to provide comprehensive online educational resources for different subjects. Since 2001, this web page, together with ‘The Commercial Press Education Website’, has been providing teachers and students with comprehensive online educational resources. Recently, ‘Reading Web’, ‘Online Assessment’, ‘Resources Web’ and ‘Knowledge Web’ were launched for providing a more comprehensive online educational platform to supplement traditional printed books with electronic products. To meet the challenge of a new curriculum for Middle/High School Education (whereby five years is being replaced by six years), the company will continue to emphasize on the needs of students through publishing more innovative texts and references.

With the new education reform, learning methods and reading habits are bound to change. The need to be ‘student-oriented’ is emphasized. Publishers always work to be ahead of their readers and guide them. As a partner of schools, Hong Kong Educational Publishing Company will continue to provide quality service and support, and organize a wide variety of cultural events to serve schools and society. The New Senior Secondary (NSS) curriculum was launched in 2009. We keep abreast of time, get well prepared and face the new changes with schools.

Since the turn of the century, education in Hong Kong and the way people learn have both been undergoing unprecedented changes. In view of this, the Hong Kong Educational Publishing Company is firmly committed to live up to its slogan ‘ Keep abreast of the times and publish for education’. In a spirit of respect for and cooperation with educational authorities, the company will continue to provide high quality learning materials to support the ongoing development of local education.
